TIGRAN HAMASYAN, THE PRESTIGIOUS PIANIST WHO HAS RECORDED FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN NONESUCH, IS THE FIRST ARTIST ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2022 EDITION OF MISTY FEST, WHICH THIS YEAR TAKES PLACE BETWEEN 31 OCTOBER AND 6 DECEMBER.
Editions on Verve and ECM, among others, cement a perhaps quiet but still solid path that Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan has been treading since 2009. His most recent work, The Call Within, however, is already his fourth on the prestigious Nonesuch label, his second as a trio after Mockroot (2015), with the others being solo exercises full of the technical exuberance that has already led Herbie Hancock to humbly declare himself his disciple. Tigran Hamasyan, by the way, is only 35 and probably wasn’t even speaking when the veteran pianist released Perfect Machine in 1988.
Praised by the international press – he was artist of the year by the German musical press association and BBC Music Magazine wrote that one should “file this artist under the letter F for Fantastic, in both senses of the word” -, Hamasyan comes now to Portugal with his trio in which the incredible drummer Arthur Hnatek and the electric bass player Marc Karapetian are featured: three musicians technically dazzling and artistically capable of surprising us at every moment. In their luggage they bring The Call Within, an album that, wrote the Portuguese magazine Rimas e Batidas, “has material for the spirit, the natural product of an artist who is inspired by poetry, the contemplation of maps and the legends that the Christian and pre-Christian folklore of Armenia has kept as deep signs of identity”.
