Aukai means ‘sea traveller’ in Hawaiian, evoking an introspective and serene journey. This is the name of the project by multi-instrumentalist and composer Markus Sieber, who creates immersive and meditative instrumental soundscapes.
His sound is marked by the charango, an Andean string instrument whose ethereal timbre conveys the feeling of freedom of the mountains. Born in East Germany, Sieber went through an intense musical and personal journey – from alternative rock in the 1990s to theatre and cinema, until he found inspiration in indigenous music during a stay in Mexico.
Aukai is now making its debut at Misty Fest and promises to transport us to a state of contemplation and beauty, where each note resonates like a lasting memory.
